Steven Robertson
Steven is an experienced guitarist, educator, and composer with over 17 years of experience in the music industry, including 15 years of electric guitar performance, and 8 years of teaching and tutoring guitar and music theory. With a background spanning contemporary electric guitar styles and classical composition, he offers lessons that are tailored to each student’s individual goals, interests, and musical direction.
Specialising in rock, blues, metal, and pop guitar, Steven teaches students of all skill levels in areas including performance, improvisation, songwriting, ear training, music theory, and technical development. Lessons are designed to be open, relaxed, and student-driven, encouraging creativity and confidence while still building strong musical foundations.
After completing a Bachelor of Music under the tutelage of John Dallimore in 2020, he continued further study in classical guitar under Dr. Ken Murray at the University of Melbourne. Alongside contemporary guitar performance, Steven has pursued extensive independent study in Baroque composition, harmony, and counterpoint, bringing a deeper understanding of music and musicianship into lessons without losing sight of the student’s personal interests and goals.
Most experienced working with older and adult students, Steven creates a supportive learning environment where students are encouraged to progress at their own pace — whether they are learning guitar for enjoyment, developing improvisational skills, writing original music, or preparing for exams and auditions.
In addition to teaching guitar, he also enjoys composing and arranging music for a variety of instruments, often drawing inspiration from the Neo-Baroque style.
