Kristin has held a long standing, strong interest in both social justice and music, which has shaped her professional path. She completed a Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) at the Royal Institute of Technology, followed by a Master of Music Therapy at The University of Melbourne. Prior to this, Kristin also completed a Diploma of Community Development and an Advanced Diploma of Community Sector Management, all of which inform her holistic approach, grounded in an understanding of the broader social contexts shaping people’s lives.

What is Music Therapy?

Music therapy is a clinically informed and evidence-based practice, that uses music based experiences and interventions to foster enhanced emotional, cognitive, social, and physical well-being, tailored to the unique needs and goals of each individual.

Music therapy can be delivered across the lifespan to support improved functional, cognitive, emotional, and social outcomes, tailored to each individual's goals, unique needs and lived experiences. This may include:

❋ Infants, children, and adolescents with developmental delays
❋ Individuals with intellectual or neurodevelopmental disabilities
❋ Individuals with profound and complex disabilities
❋ Adults with neurological conditions or acquired brains injuries
❋ People undergoing medical rehabilitation
❋ Adults with progressive illnesses including dementia
  • Rhythmic entrainment to improve gross motor coordination, gait stability, and movement planning

  • Live music-making and vocal work to support speech production, breath control, and expressive communication

  • Improvisation frameworks to enhance emotional regulation, sensory integration, and joint attention

  • Structured musical sequencing to strengthen cognitive functions such as memory, attention, and task initiation

  • Songwriting and guided lyric work to facilitate emotional insight, identity expression, and improved wellbeing

  • Adapted instrumental tasks to develop fine motor skills, bilateral coordination, and functional hand use

Therapy is goal-directed and evidence-informed.
